Things to Do and See in Wilmington
Wilmington is the Southern destination with something for everyone. Explore the city's National Register Historic District, which spans 230-plus blocks of churches, classic architecture, moss-draped live oaks, brick-lined streets and historic homes. Enjoy live music, performing arts, and museum exhibitions. Celebrate the arrival of spring and all things Southern culture and arts in April during the world-famous North Carolina Azalea Festival.
Visit Airlie Gardens or stroll along the pedestrian-friendly Riverwalk lined with shops and cafes and the Port City Marina. Then hop aboard a water taxi to the famous World War II Battleship NORTH CAROLINA, one of USA TODAY's Best North Carolina Attractions, or take a scenic cruise or sightseeing tour. Bring your family to ride water slides at Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park or explore further out at one of our three beautiful island beaches.
Experience the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, a nationally recognized seaside boardwalk. In Kure Beach, tour the Fort Fisher State Historic Site including exhibits, cannons, artifacts and the remains of the South’s largest earthen fort and site of the largest land-sea battle of the Civil War. Another popular attraction is the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, named a top 20 aquarium in the U.S. by Trip Advisor. Dubbed North Carolina’s most naturally gifted watersports hub and one of the top surfing towns in the world, check out the active lifestyle in Wrightsville Beach.
